Could a suspended ceiling save you money?

With ever increasing cost of fuel and power to heat a factory, production or warehouse area.

.. many companies should consider suspended ceilings.  Look at the picture, we have installed a suspended ceiling in a typical production machine shop.

Suspended Ceiling

The existing machine shop has a high roof eaves height of 8m to 9m and we have installed a suspended ceiling quickly and easily which not only provides a better working environment but saves significant fuel costs on heating a smaller cube rather than a larger cube.

Suspended ceilings by Storage Concepts can be quickly and easily installed into factories, production, warehouse and retail areas.  They are quick, easy and economical to fit and will provide a better overall aesthetic appearance as well as retaining heat and sound attenuation.

New Client Testimonials – April 2012

Our company undertook a major reorganisation programme of our manufacturing facilities, which involved stripping out numerous existing mezzanines and installing larger more complex floors in their place.

All this work had to be carried out to strict timescales and with minimum disruption to our production schedules.

Storage Concepts played an important role in our modernisation strategy from preparation of the initial floor designs, including structural surveys, through to installation of the mezzanines, access stairs and landings.

The complete package of works was carried out to very high standards, on time, working out of normal hours and over holiday periods, and importantly with no impact on boat production.

I express my sincere thanks to your company and yourself for the co-operation and commitment you have given to ensure the success of our modernisation programme.

—————————————

I thought I should record our thanks for the work you have done for us over the years.  Our relationship with Storage Concepts goes back more than 15 years when you fitted out the office and designed and built the warehouse layout for our first site in Nottingham.  The office furniture is still in use and looks nearly as good as it did then.

During this time we have grown and now occupy warehouses in other parts of Nottinghamshire, including a 30,000 sq.ft. shed that both companies worked on to design a storage facility for rolls of fabric.  I seem to recall we need trailer loads of melamine board!

When we move into the new premises you planned and built our racking layout for 7500 pallet locations, which we were delighted with an have since added a further 1500 pallet locations.

We have ambitious growth plans and Storage Concepts will get the call when we determine where and when our next warehouse will be.

What are the Pallet Racking Standards

UK Pallet Racking Standards

Pallet Racking

There are no specific Government standards laid down for the manufacture and / or installation of pallet racking.  Each manufacturer designs and produces their own system based on their manufacturing capabilit, design standards and patents.

All UK manufacturers however are signed up to the SEMA (Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association) Code of Practice which dictates design criteria and also specifically assists and guides contractors in relation to best practice for onsite installation.

All pallet racking installations must be fit for purpose and as such are designed to support specific loads over a given area.  The racking designer will choose the product depending on the design loads and other criteria available from the client. This, together with information provided by the manufacturers technical support team, will allow the installation to be value engineered and designed fit for purpose with suitable specification of frames, beams and loads considering pallet dimensions and handling criteria.

Once the installation has been completed safety load signs would be affixed to the installation by the racking contractor for operational guidance.

It is then the operators responsibility to ensure that all personnel working within the new rack system are suitably trained and that regular rack inspections are undertaken to ensure that the installed equipment is maintained to the highest safety standards.

Storage Concepts recommends weekly on-site inspections by the client with a six monthly rack inspection by a suitably qualified outside agency.

Minimum Mezzanine Floor Loadings

Mezzanine floor loadings.

At Storage Concepts we are often asked the minimum loadings a mezzanine floor can be built to, well the answer is 4 . 8 knm2

We can manufacture Mezzanines which require a larger loading depending on what the end user is intending to use the additional space for, whether that be storage or an office area.

Storage Concepts would have to check the existing floor conditions to ensure the floor can support the point loads imposed by the new mezzanine floor columns; such as concrete thickness, ground bearing pressure and so on.

In circumstances where this information is not known, then our team will carry out a bore hole test to establish what the floor conditions are like. If needed we would have to install foundation pads to support the new mezzanine floor columns.
