Vesuvius. Minimum disruption and no eruptions

Vesuvius UK Ltd is a highly specialist community of experts, providing best-in-class solutions and services to molten metal, glass and renewable energy industries throughout the world.

They acquired Foseco in 2008, to become a group that employed over 10,000 people at 70 plants in 40 countries. In the UK they decided to amalgamate their Head Office and their R&D facility at Barlborough, Chesterfield.

After a presentation of our services, Storage Concepts submitted comprehensive proposals that would complete the relocation whilst Vesuvius’s operations remained live.

End-of-year budgets meant time and money was tight, and all work had to be compliant with the latest CDM, Health & Safety and Building regulations.

By offering an end-to-end ‘turnkey’ package, working flexible hours and providing a detailed schedule of work in progress meant we were able to work closely with Vesuvius and achieve their goals in one smooth, co-ordinated operation.

We constructed a free-standing mezzanine floor with a double-skinned, partitioned shop floor laboratory beneath. We designed and built new meeting rooms, a canteen and first aid room. We installed suspended ceilings, electrics, air conditioning, smoke detectors, floor covering, break out furniture and lighting for offices.

Then we equipped the relocated R&D laboratories with all of the above – plus the specialised equipment and systems.

There was very little disruption and the project was finished within time and on a very tight budget.
